We continue our 2025 sightseeing tour with a three-day stopover in Saint-Omer, Pas-de-Calais. A town full of charm, history and surprises! We stayed at CAMPING-CAR PARK in Saint-Omer located on the banks of the Neuffossé canal, about 500 meters from the town center. The site offers 16 well-marked pitches, all with electric hook-ups, a convenient dumping zone and a brand-new connected terminal. A LIDL supermarket 100 meters away, a launderette on rue de Dunkerque, and the Saturday morning market in Place Foch make daily life easy for motorhome owners.
Saint-Omer took us completely by surprise! The cathedral, impressive in its size and architecture, is well worth a visit. Built over several centuries, it brings together different periods of the Gothic style. The Maison du Patrimoine, at the foot of the building, offers an interactive tour ideal for young and old alike. And what can we say about the theater, right in the center of the town, an eye-catching architectural gem! We loved the city's cultural richness, punctuated by numerous seasonal events.
Saint-Omer's must-see is the Maison du Marais. A lively and moving place, where you can discover the history of the market gardeners and the incredible network of canals dug since the Middle Ages. Our bacôve ride was magical: gliding along the water, guided by an enthusiast, in a peaceful setting, is an experience not to be missed. Cycling fans will also be delighted: head for Arques along the canal's greenway to the Fontinettes boat elevator, the only one of its kind in France! A true testament to the region's industrial and maritime past. Saint-Omer is the perfect blend of nature, history and conviviality to discover in a motorhome!
