Lozère by motorhome: nature, culture and relaxation in the heart of wild France

Stage 1: Chambon-le-Château, Auroux and Langogne

Chambon-le-Château:

  • Admire the Val d'Ance fortified castle (14th century), now a starting point for several hiking trails.

Auroux & Langogne:

  • Take advantage of the Grand Lac de Naussac for sailing, paddle-boarding or picnics by the shore.
  • Langogne is also known for its market and local shops.

Stage 2: La Canourgue, Lozère's little Venice

  • Discover its canals, flower-filled lanes and stone bridges.
  • Take a break at the Malakoff chocolate factory in Banassac (local praline specialties).
  • Admire the Sabot de Malepeyre, a 30-metre natural arch overlooking the Urugne valley.

Recommended area: La Canourgue

Stage 3: Le Massegros, wide open spaces and a cheese-making tradition

  • Take a stroll on the plateaux of the Grands Causses.
  • Visit the local cheese factory (Salakis, Lou Pérac, Bleu du Massegros).
  • Enjoy free access to mini-golf, tennis and a city stadium.

Stage 4: Mende, historic capital of Gévaudan

  • Visit Saint-Privat Cathedral (14th-15th centuries).
  • Explore the hospital's former pharmacy (19th century), untouched since that time.
  • Mende is an excellent starting point for hikes to Mont Lozère.
