Sea Festival and Saint Peter's Day in Martigues (June 27–29): Provençal traditions and a motorhome stopover

Every year at the end of June, Martigues — nicknamed the "Provençal Venice" — celebrates the Sea Festival and Saint Peter's Day. For three days, come and enjoy the festive atmosphere in this town in the Bouches-du-Rhône with the following program:

  • Sardinades and conviviality on the quays
  • Traditional rowing and old-fashioned games
  • Spectacular Provençal jousting on the canals
  • Folk parade on Saturday in the late afternoon
  • Tribute to Saint Peter, patron saint of fishermen, at sea and on land,

and take part in the traditional parade that will take place on land or at sea on Saturday, June 29, in the late afternoon!

What to do in Martigues outside of the festivities? Make the most of your stay:

Relaxing on the beaches of the Côte Bleue

Close to Martigues, the famous beaches of La Couronne and Sainte-Croix are perfect for swimming or a picnic by the water. Easily accessible for campervans, they are popular spots for enjoying nature and relaxation.

Family hikes and nature

The Figuerolles park, north of the city, is ideal for families, with marked trails, playgrounds, and panoramic views of the Etang de Berre (Berre pond). Hiking enthusiasts can also take the coastal paths towards Sausset-les-Pins or Carry-le-Rouet for stunning views of the Mediterranean, while discovering the area's landscapes. 

Discovering the town and local flavors

Stroll through the streets of the city center, especially:

  • The Île district, the historic heart of Martigues, offers flowered streets and boats moored along the canals. 
  • The Sainte-Croix and Notre-Dame-des-Marins chapels
  • The Ziem museum and its temporary works by Rodin, Signac or Camille Claudel.
  • And what about the food? Treat yourself to a bouillabaisse or bourride on a restaurant terrace by the canal!
