The motorhome checklist before departure

Motorhome checklist: Essential preparations for a successful vacation

Traveling in a motorhome embodies absolute freedom. But to ensure that this freedom is not hindered by oversights or unexpected technical issues, good preparation is key. Before turning the ignition key, review our comprehensive checklist so you can set off with peace of mind.

To enjoy your trip with complete peace of mind, CAMPING-CAR PARK offers more than 650 sites accessible 24 hours a day with the Digital Pass. And thanks to the Privilege Pack, you can take advantage of advance booking, exclusive benefits, and dedicated customer service.

1. Administrative: Essential documents

First and foremost, ensure that your documents are up to date and accessible in a waterproof pouch:

  • Identity: Identity cards or passports of all passengers.
  • Vehicle: Driver's license, vehicle registration certificate, and proof of insurance.
  • Health: European Health Insurance Card (if you are crossing borders).
  • Services: Your access card and the CAMPING-CAR PARK app installed to locate and access more than 650 sites 24 hours a day.

2. Technical and mechanical inspection

Even if your vehicle appears to be in perfect condition, a quick check-up is essential:

  • Tires: Check the pressure (including the spare tire) and wear. Note: In winter, don't forget 3PMSF tires or chains (Mountain Law).
  • Levels: Engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid.
  • Lighting: Test all lights (headlights, turn signals, brake lights) and carry a box of spare bulbs.
  • Visibility: Check the condition of your windshield wipers and that your rearview or 360° camera is working properly.

3. Technical equipment for autonomy

To take full advantage of the services available at the rest areas, check your connections:

  • Electricity: Extension cord and camping plug adapter. Check your battery charge.
  • Water: Food-grade hose with various connection fittings.
  • Stabilization: Leveling wedges for optimal comfort when stationary.
  • Gas: Full cylinders and regulator in good condition.

4. Life on board and comfort

Turn your motorhome into a real cocoon:

  • Kitchen: Unbreakable tableware, compact cookware, and biodegradable cleaning products.
  • Bedding: Clean sheets, pillows, and towels.
  • Maintenance: Special toilet paper for chemical toilets and products for cassettes.
  • Outdoors: Folding furniture (table and chairs), awning, and flashlight or headlamp.

5. Safety and first aid

Safety should never be neglected when traveling in a motorhome:

  • Mandatory: Fluorescent vest (accessible from the driver's seat) and warning triangle.
  • Health: Complete first aid kit (bandages, disinfectant, basic medicines, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent).
  • Fire safety: Fire extinguisher inspection date.

6. One last look before departure

Just before turning the key and setting off on a new adventure with CAMPING-CAR PARK, take a look around your motorhome:

  • Inside: Close and lock all cupboards, drawers, and refrigerator doors.
  • Openings: Ensure that skylights and windows are properly closed.
  • Outside: Retract the step, unplug the 220V socket, and check that the bikes are securely fastened.

Mandatory equipment on board your motorhome

Since 2025, regulations have required certain equipment to be carried on board motorhomes, campervans, and converted vans, in accordance with the recommendations of the French road authorities.

A fluorescent safety vest (CE) and warning triangle are essential. The vest must be accessible from the driver's seat and worn in the event of an emergency stop. The triangle must be placed 30 meters behind the vehicle, except on highways where hazard lights alone may suffice.

Signaling and lighting devices must be complete: high beams, low beams, brake lights, turn signals, rear fog lights, and license plate lights.

In winter, the Mountain Law requires the use of 3PMSF winter tires or snow chains/socks between November 1 and March 31 in the areas concerned. Outside France, depending on the destination, other items such as a spare tire, fire extinguisher, or V16 lamp may be required.
