Bruère-Allichamps: The CAMPING-CAR PARK area, a driver of dynamism for the local economy

In the heart of the Cher department, the town of Bruère-Allichamps is quietly making a name for itself as a model for welcoming motorhomers in France. Since 2017, the CAMPING-CAR PARK area, set up on the former municipal campsite, has been attracting many travellers each year in search of nature, heritage and reliable services. Roger Portmann, the deputy mayor, looks back on this collaboration, which began almost ten years ago.

A pragmatic and positive cooperation

"We've been working with CAMPING-CAR PARK for several years now, in a genuine partnership between the town and the supplier," explains Roger Portmann. Although a few technical adjustments have been necessary over time, the results have been very positive: the area has become self-financing and is helping to get local projects off the ground thanks to the revenue generated.

The very way the area operates reflects CAMPING-CAR PARK's core values:

  • Environmental responsibility, with rigorous waste water management, waste collection and connected facilities to monitor consumption.
  • Virtuous economic model, allowing the town to receive up to 2/3 of the turnover generated by the area.
  • Social utility, by attracting visitors who revitalise local businesses.

"The grocery shop next to the area is doing very well thanks to the motorhomers. We're seeing a change in behaviour: travellers are stopping, buying locally and taking an interest in the village," says the deputy mayor.

Developments financed largely by tourism

The regular arrival of motorhomers and the increase in visitor numbers to the area have led to significant local economic momentum. While the revenue directly generated by the area is important for the town, it is also all the spending in local shops – grocery shops, bakeries, restaurants – that helps to boost the municipal budget. This vitality has enabled several developments to be undertaken, including the installation of play equipment for children and the study of a future City Stadium for the village's young people and adults. All these facilities help to improve the quality of life for residents, while supporting the development of responsible tourism.

A formula that lightens the load on municipal management

The area, equipped with essential services available 24/7 (water, electricity, drainage, wifi), offers users comfort and autonomy while limiting the impact on municipal finances. "Before, the services were free, but that weighed on the municipal budget. Today, the town no longer bears this burden," notes Roger Portmann.

A green stopover, rich in heritage

Located in a large, wooded park, just 400 metres from the town centre, the Bruère-Allichamps area offers a pleasant setting with 100 m² pitches. On the banks of the Cher, walkers appreciate the proximity of the hiking trails and services: bakery, supermarket, bar-tobacconist, hairdresser and restaurants.

The town itself stands out because of its rich heritage:

  • The Column of the Centre of France, a geographical symbol.
  • The Noirlac Abbey, which is very well preserved.
  • The Saint-Étienne d’Allichamps Priory, a listed historical monument.
  • The castles of Chateaufer and Meillant.

In conclusion: a strengthened local balance

Far from being just empty promises, the CAMPING-CAR PARK model is a real success story here. The site contributes to the economic vitality of the area, while blending discreetly into the local landscape. "It's a formula that works, takes the pressure off the town hall, and boosts the village's appeal," concludes Roger Portmann.

A partnership that proves that with the right tools, motorhome tourism can be a real opportunity for local areas.
