What to do in Biscarrosse?

6 authentic experiences to enjoy in a motorhome

When you're used to travelling in a motorhome, you quickly get to know the classics: beaches, cycle paths, farmers' markets, etc. But some destinations deserve a closer look. This is the case with Biscarrosse in the Landes region, which offers much more than just its seaside resort status. Here are 6 ideas for original activities in Biscarrosse for a motorhome trip that's off the beaten track.

1. Visit the Seaplane Museum: a unique place in Europe

Much more than just a technical museum, the Seaplane Museum tells the extraordinary human and aviation adventure of the seaplanes that left Biscarrosse to cross the Atlantic. Located on the former Latécoère base, it immerses you in the history of the Aéropostale, with models, period photos and stories of pilots who marked this epic journey.

It's a rare visit, full of nostalgia and curiosity. A great way to discover a strong and unique side of Biscarrosse that goes far beyond its image as a seaside resort.

Good to know: the Biscarosse motorhome area is well located for reaching the museum by bike in 45 minutes. You can visit on your own or with a guide, as you wish.

2. Feel the excitement of a Course Landaise in Parentis-en-Born

Just a few kilometres from Biscarrosse, Parentis-en-Born keeps one of the Landes' most vibrant traditions alive: the Course Landaise. Much more than just a show, it's a Gascon cultural heritage passed down with pride. In summer, the arenas host shows full of acrobatics and emotion, with no killing of the animal.

The atmosphere is festive, often with music and shared meals. A great moment for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the traditions of the Landes.

Tip: arrive at the end of the day and enjoy the evening in the village. If you're staying at the Gastes Camping-Car Park area, located on the lake shore less than 10 km away, you can cycle or drive to Parentis in a few minutes to watch the Course Landaise while enjoying a peaceful setting for the night.

3. Walk in the footsteps of the resin collectors in the Landes forest

Did you know? Before tourism arrived, the forest of Biscarrosse lived off resin extraction: extracting pine resin. Even today, traces of this activity remain, far from the busy paths. If you venture away from the marked cycle paths, between the small Biscarrosse pond and the wooded areas of the town, you may come across old huts, notched pines or explanatory panels set up by enthusiasts.

It's a different, more introspective walk that helps you understand the area's discreet but fundamental history.

Tip: wear good shoes and set off early or late in the day to avoid the heat and enjoy the soft light.

4. Stop off in Gastes for a peaceful break by the water

Away from the summer hustle and bustle, the village of Gastes borders the Biscarrosse-Parentis lake with rare serenity. Here you'll find a small marina, a canal lined with shady benches, and a peaceful, almost timeless atmosphere. Perfect for a lunch break with your feet in the water, or a quiet night.

Fishing, photography and peace and quiet enthusiasts will love it here. It's also a good starting point for a walk around the lake.

Please note: the motorhome area on site is very well located, with a direct view of the lake.

5. Taste the true flavours of the Landes

The Landes is not just about duck. Around Biscarrosse, you can still find producers of Landes pastis, Armagnac, smoked eels and farm poultry who open their doors to those who are curious. Far from the tourist areas, it's often families who have been here for generations who share their expertise.

Ask for good addresses at the Biscarrosse-Bourg market, or at the tourist office, and leave with a bottle or a recipe in your pocket.

Gourmet tip: book a tasting tour or a small meal with a producer for a great experience.

6. Take a botanical stroll around the little Biscarrosse pond

A listed Natura 2000 site, the little pond, north of the town, is a discreet and enchanting spot. An interpretive trail has been created there, perfect for those curious about nature, birds and aquatic plants. Far from the hustle and bustle of the ocean, you can spot herons, dragonflies and rare plants.

A perfect moment of calm to start or end the day.
