During our motorhome trip through Haute-Vienne, we stopped at Dorat, a charming village nestled on the edge of Berry, Poitou and Limousin. This small town of character, perched at 224 meters altitude, won us over with its peaceful atmosphere, rich historical past and quality welcome for motorhomers.
From the campsite, it's just a five-minute walk to the town center. On Saturday morning, we strolled through the weekly market before visiting some lovely artisan and antique shops. On the outskirts, a small supermarket allows you to shop without constraints.
We had lunch at "La Terrasse des Îles", a restaurant with a unique atmosphere where you can enjoy excellent Malagasy cuisine in a setting that mixes grocery store, flea market and conviviality.
A little further on, we met a passionate potter who also offers courses for adults and children. The opportunity to bring back a beautiful handcrafted piece or learn about a local skill.
Le Dorat is classified as a "Remarkable Heritage Site" and "Small town of character", and it's no coincidence. Its 11th century Romanesque collegiate church, a listed historical monument, impresses with its volumes and stones steeped in history. It houses the relics of Saint Israël and Saint Théobald, celebrated every seven years during the "Ostensions".
Another medieval gem is the Bergère gate, a remnant of the town's old fortifications. And for nature lovers, several hiking trails start right from the edge of the campsite. Perfect for escaping into the Limousin countryside!
We parked our rig at the small campsite in my village of Le Dorat, managed by CAMPING-CAR PARK. About twenty spacious grassy pitches, a connected terminal, an automated entrance, and even a Wi-Fi hotspot: everything is designed for a comfortable stay. The sanitary facilities, which are very well maintained, are accessible from April to November with the Digital Pass. And for services: emptying, water, electricity, trash cans... it's all there.
The cherry on top: the breathtaking view of the village and the majestic Saint-Pierre-Es-Liens Collegiate Church. The campsite is incredibly quiet, ideal for a restful night.
We left Le Dorat delighted by the welcome, the calm and the cultural richness of this village. For motorhomers in search of authenticity, nature and heritage, it is an unmissable stop. We will be back, that's for sure!
